For California, how many hours do I need before I take my driving behind-the-wheel test?

I currently have 17 and a half hours worth of driving practice. How many hours do I need total before I can take my behind-the-wheel test?

Also, how LONG do you have from the time you take your written test and get your permit to get an appointment with the DMV? If you don't have all your hours by 6 months, do you have to re-register, or can you just set an appointment once you complete the total hour requirement?|||you need 50 hrs of driving(at least 6 hrs with an instructor, 40 hrs with an adult above the age of 25 with a license in the morning, and 10 hrs at night)

u have to wait at least 6 months. u can set an appointment after u finish ur hours as long as ur permit doesnt expire|||You need 40 hours during the day and 10 hours driving at night.

But to be honest, there is no way to check for sure, so it's ok if you need to fudge the numbers a little. Just make sure your ready for your test and arent cheating.|||Before being eligible to take your driving test you must:

* Be 16 years old

AND

* Have held your permit for a minimum of six months

AND

* Have completed driver education

AND

* Have completed 6 hours of professional driver training

AND

* Have completed 50 hours of practice with an adult 25 years or older. The adult must have a valid California driver license and certify to the 50 hours of practice. At least 10 of the 50 hours must have been done at night.

Your driver license application is valid for 12 months from the application date. If your application will expire before you have held your provisional instruction permit for six months, you must return to DMV and start a new application. You will need to pay the application fee and fulfill all application requirements. Take your instruction permit with you to DMV. You will be credited for the time you have held your instruction permit and receive cumulative credit towards your subsequent provisional instruction permit to meet the six-month requirement before taking your driving test.
