How do you transfer a car title in California?

I have a potential buyer for my car. He lives about one hour away. If he dose not come during dmv hours how would i transfer the title so that i am not responsible for any tickets or anything else?|||you take the name and address (ask for their drivers license) of the buyer, and send that information immediately to the dmv, and notify your insurance company the minute you sell it, the best way, to insure that the car is out of your name, is to insist on the new owner going to the dmv with you. in fact some people who had problems in the past, will not sell a car, if the person will not go, because there are many people with suspended licenses, who buy cars that are already registered, and never change the title over,so by insisting the new owner go to the dmv, you may be keeping a suspended drunk off the road in your car. but you didn't sell it either.do what you think is best for you good luck|||Sign it with buyer and your witness and give to him AFTER cash in hand and no they cannot have a discount, tell them as all you crazies want is to get a car for nothing which it is since the numbers of repos.|||You don't transfer the title the buyer does. All you need to do is sign the title and remove your tags before he takes the car away. To protect yourself you should get his name and address and file a "Notice of Transfer and Release of Liability" with the DMV. Here's a link to the form.

In a private sale these days do not accept a check or money order of any type from a stranger. Cash only or meet him at his bank and watch the teller make the check or do an electronic transfer to your bank. With computers and printers it is very easy to make an almost perfect counterfeit check and even the bank might not catch it for a few weeks at which time you must repay the bank for all of the money.|||Here is a helpful guide for your query.
